Dr. Costa practices general anesthesiology with a focus on neurosurgical and neurovascular procedures. Her significant contributions extend beyond clinical practice as she holds the positions of Associate Professor and Associate Residency Program Director within the Department of Anesthesiology at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

The ABA sets standards and exams for the accreditation of board-certified anesthesiologists coming to the end of their residency. It is one of the 24 medical specialty boards that constitutes the American Board of Medical Specialties.

On the professional front, Dr. Costa is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and holds the distinguished status of a senior member and Chair of Admissions of the Donoho Academy of Clinical and Educational Scholars. Her trajectory to success is attributed to her diligent efforts, unwavering dedication to her work, and the invaluable guidance provided by mentors who have played a pivotal role throughout her journey. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
