Dr. Ana Finch Mateo is a highly regarded Pediatric Cardiologist serving the children of Puerto Rico.

Parents seeking treatment for their children with congenital heart disease have turned to Dr. Finch Mateo for many years. Each year she evaluates and treats hundreds of children and teenagers with congenital heart problems or arrhythmia.

Dr. Finch Mateo has extensive experience caring for children who have supraventricular tachycardia, congenital heart defects and other heart conditions. She has been practicing in Puerto Rico since 1985.

Dr. Finch Mateo clearly understands that children are not just small adults. The kinds of heart problems children have are very different from adults. For example, children are more likely to be diagnosed with a heart difference that they were born with. Dr. Mateo is specifically trained to diagnose and treat  heart problems that affect children.

She earned her medical degree from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine  (SJBSOM), a private medical school in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Its focus is on serving impoverished and underserved populations.

Dr. Finch Mateo performed her residency at the Hospital Episcopal San Lucas. The mission of the hospital and its residency program is to provide health services of the highest quality, focused on individualized care, through a compassionate, competent and committed team.

Dr. Finch Mateo continued her education and gained a Fellowship at Kaleida Health System – Children Hospital. Kaleida Health is the largest healthcare provider in Western New York, serving the area’s eight counties with state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive healthcare services. Its expert, compassionate healthcare professionals are committed to providing the best possible outcomes and experience for patients. The John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, is one of only six pediatric Level I Trauma Centers in New York State and the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center west of Syracuse.

Dr. Finch Mateo has her work published in medical and professional healthcare journals. One specific expert publication is entitled: The importance of fetal echocardiography in the detection and management of congenital cardiac malformations.

She is a member of the Medication Safety Officers Society (MSOS). The mission of MSOS is to advance and encourage excellence in safe medication use by providing communication, leadership, direction, and education among its members.

She was inspired by her father who was a physician and her mother who was a nurse and expressed an interest early on to be involved in the healing of children.
