Dr. King is an experienced trauma surgeon and critical care physician who holds privileges at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center where she serves the community of southwest Washington.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center is a Washington state designated Level II Trauma Center equipped to handle any complexity and severity of a trauma. It consists of a team of physicians trained in the treatment of patients with severe traumas. These surgeons are trained in: surgical critical care, general surgery, and neuro-critical care, as well as hold expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and support of critically ill and injured patients.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. King received her undergraduate degree at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She then went on to earn her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2010.
As for her surgical and critical care training, she completed her residency in general surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio in 2015. This was followed by a trauma & surgical critical care fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio in 2016.
As a testament to her success, the doctor is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. King is an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support. It is a training program for medical providers in the management of acute trauma cases, developed by the ACS.
Trauma surgery is a surgical specialty that utilizes both operative and non-operative management to treat traumatic injuries, typically in an acute setting. Trauma surgeons generally complete residency training in general surgery and often fellowship training in trauma or surgical critical care. They are responsible for treating bone fractures, cuts, internal injuries, burns, and shock. They also perform surgery to repair penetrating and blunt-force injuries.
On a more personal note, Dr. King loves to travel which is represented by her training across the country. Her Alaskan born roots have brought her back to the Pacific Northwest for the outdoor adventure.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling to visit her family, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and pretty much anything to do with water.
