Andrea Madrigrano, MD, FACS, is a breast surgeon at Rush University Surgeons, and is affiliated with Rush University Medical Center. Her career in medicine began in 2001, when she graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. This was also the location of her residency, prior to a fellowship being completed at Stanford Hospital in California.
Board certified in General Surgery, Dr. Madrigrano has become famed as a specialist in breast surgery, including breast reconstruction, lymph node biopsies and mastectomies. A breast surgeon is trained to evaluate and manage patients with breast pain, benign lumps and cysts and abnormal mammograms, in addition to breast cancer. It is important to realize that the majority of benign (non-cancerous) breast conditions do not require surgery. The use of breast ultrasound for evaluation and for procedure guidance is an integral part of my practice, and minimally-invasive as well as non-operative procedures are often used where historically surgery might have been the only option.
