Dr. Akerman is a highly-trained and qualified radiologist. Having been in practice for nearly a decade, Dr. Akerman is currently serving patients within EliteRAD Radiology Services, Inc. in Winter Springs, Florida. There, he and the staff implement their expertise to provide fast and accurate interpretations of the most advanced radiology examinations.

With Telemed America, which is now serving multiple states, including Florida, he is able to connect with multiple facilities and provide medical assessments via remote access, giving a much larger cohort of patients with top-notch medical services.

At the age of 16, Dr. Akerman sustained a C6 spinal cord injury, which rendered him quadriplegic. The only quadriplegic in the country attending medical school at the time, Dr. Akerman graduated with his Medical Degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He subsequently completed his 4 year residency in diagnostic radiology at North Shore University Hospital, followed by his sub-specialty fellowship in neuroradiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

An active member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, Dr. Akerman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR). He has also given many lectures and seminars in the field of neuroradiology as well as multiple other medical topics in front of medical students, residents, and national audiences.

Neuroradiology is a subspecialty of radiology focusing on the diagnosis and characterization of abnormalities of the central and peripheral nervous system, spine, and head and neck using neuroimaging techniques. Neuroradiologists are doctors who focus on diagnosing conditions of the spine, neck, head, and central nervous system. They use medical equipment, such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging machines, to identify problems.

Recognizing that prevention is the best form of medical intervention, Dr. Akerman leads by example. Most diseases can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle that includes proper nutrition and exercise. He attributes his success to his unwavering determination and perseverance, two key traits that define his character.

For his excellence, he was honored with a NYU Founders Day Award, a Burke Award, as well as the Max Som Award and the Dr. James Marks Award of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

A firm believer that community service is highly important in a physician’s career, Dr. Akerman served as a hospital translator for Hebrew and Hungarian (1995-2005), a member of “Kids in the Hall” – a support group for youths with spinal cord injury (1997-2000), on the Emergency Ethics Subcommittee at Mount Sinai Hospital (1998-2000), and as a member of the ADA subcommittee – designed to improve handicapped access in the hospital and surrounding neighborhood (1998-2000).
