Dr. Sloan is on the forefront of surgical and nonsurgical treatments in neurosurgery and regularly contributes to significant advances in technology, education and research in the treatment of brain, spine and cerebrovascular system conditions. Dr Sloan graduated from Yale University, one of the he world’s most prestigious, elite universities, magna cum laude with a degree in Biology.

Dr. Sloan received his MD from Harvard Medical School. Harvard is consistently ranked 1st among research-oriented medical schools. Dr. Sloan served his internship in general surgery and neurosurgical residency at UCLA followed by a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

His clinical and research interest focus on the biology and treatment of tumors of the brain and spine. His expertise is in benign brain tumors, gliomas, Immunotherapy, Laser Interstitial Thermotherapy, malignant brain tumors, meningioma, minimally Invasive Brain Surgery, spinal oncology and tumor vaccines.

Dr. Sloan is the Director of the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center at UH Seidman Cancer Center and the Neurological Institute. He holds the Peter D. Cristal Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery at UH.

University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center has provided the residents of Northeast Ohio with expert clinical and hospital care for more than 150 years. Dr. Sloan joined UH, Case Western Reserve, and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2007. He was on the faculty at the University of South Florida H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida, as well as Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan.

The recipient of numerous awards, Dr. Sloan is recognized as a Top Doctor in the US, Outstanding Physicians Award, among other professional recognitions. He has been recognized as one of the “Best Doctors in America” since 2003, and is one of the “Top Surgeons in America” since 2007.

In 2014, he was elected President of the Ohio State Neurosurgical Society (OSNS). OSNS supports patient and members in advancing patient care through the encouragement of education and research by allowing neurosurgeons in achieving the highest possible standards of professional ability and integrity.

He has authored more than 135 publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous editorials, and reviews, more than 500 presentations, and holds four patents and investigational new drug (IND) applications.

He serves on the editorial board of several neurosurgical and scientific journals and is active in national surgical organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgery (AANS) and American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG). He appears regularly on national news broadcasts as a brain cancer expert.
