Dr. Lee is a neuro-ophthalmologist whose clinical interests include ocular genetics, ocular inflammation/uveitis, ocular oncology, and ocular trauma. He is a Professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology, Neurology and Neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is also Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Houston Methodist Blanton Eye Institute.
He came to Houston Methodist Hospital after serving on the faculty at the University of Iowa, Baylor College of Medicine, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

A 1989 Alpha Omega Alpha Graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Lee did his residency in ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident from 1992 until 1993. He then did a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and was a Fight for Sight (Herbert Tenzer Memorial) Post-doctoral Research Fellow within the Department of Neuropathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Specializing in eye care, he is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Interested in optic nerve disorders and, in particular, tumors of the optic nerve, Dr. Lee is involved in ophthalmic graduate medical education and in the teaching and assessing of the ACGME competencies.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, retinal, and corneal surgery.
To date, Dr. Lee has published over 400 peer reviewed publications, 40 book chapters, and 7 textbooks on ophthalmology. He has been the invited speaker at over 200 regional, national, and international medical meetings, and has been on the editorial board of 14 scientific journals including JAMA Ophthalmology, the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology, Eye, and the Journal of Neuro-ophthalmology.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Lee has been honored with both the Secretariat Award and the Senior Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
