After graduating with his Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013, Dr. Hollenbeck went on to perform his residency in general surgery at Wayne State in 2018. During this time, he was awarded Intern of the Year 2014 by his peers and privileged to be the Chief Surgical Resident for 2017-2018.
In 2019, Dr. Hollenbeck completed his minimally invasive and bariatric fellowship at Harper University Hospital. This really spurred interest in minimally invasive surgery which has now led to offering new and more advanced surgeries through small incisions: cholecystectomy, hiatal and paraesophageal hernia repair, anti-reflux procedures, colectomy for colon cancer and diverticulitis, low anterior resection for rectal cancer, gastrectomy, inguinal hernia, abdominal wall hernia (umbilical hernia, ventral hernia, incisional), robotic retro-rectus totally extraperitoneal hernia repair with and without transversus release (Rives-Stoppa +/- TAR), sleeve gastrectomy, lap band placement, and Roux-En-Y gastric bypass.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
As a family of five, Dr. Hollenbeck lives locally in Petoskey with his wife Dana, a dentist, and their 3 children. He enjoys all Northern Michigan has to offer with his family including sailing, boating, water sports, downhill skiing, gardening, woodworking, and cooking in his spare time.
