Angelia Elgin, RN, DNP, ACNPC-AG, CCRN, is making waves in the healthcare community as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Memorial Hermann Health System and as a faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program at Chamberlain University. With a Doctorate of Nursing Practice focused on Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University of Saint Louis, she has transformed her education into a thriving career dedicated to patient care and nursing education.
Her academic journey has been marked by excellence, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015 and her Doctorate in 2020. Her comprehensive training equips her with an extensive skill set, particularly in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma and Critical Care Nursing.
Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Angelia is the first African American Female Fire Chief in the State of Missouri and served in the EMS/Fire Services for twenty years. She is a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she actively participates on both National and Regional Delta Emergency Response Teams; and she serves on the Executive Board for Katy Area Alumnae Chapter. Her leadership extends to her role as member of the Safety Committee and co-chair of the Health Equity Committee for the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). She also serves as academic advisor for the student Peer Mentoring program at Chamberlain University, where she helps shape future nursing leaders.
Angelia’s influence is not confined to her immediate roles; she has also contributed to the broader field of nursing and emergency preparedness through various publications. Her articles in paramedic textbooks, EMS magazines, and community newsletters highlight essential topics such as Community and Individual Emergency Preparedness, demonstrating her commitment to improving public health and safety.
When asked about the key to her success, she attributes it to her unwavering faith and the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. “Having God in everything I do serves as my foundation,” she explains. “This, coupled with a commitment to balance in my personal and professional life, enables me to serve my patients and students effectively.”
Angelia exemplifies the spirit of dedication and service within the nursing profession. Her contributions to healthcare education and emergency preparedness continue to inspire colleagues and students alike, paving the way for a healthier, more prepared community.
