Lead Nursing Professional Development Specialist Enhances Nursing Practice through Innovative Educational Strategies

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is proud to recognize AnneMarie Monachino, DNP, RN, CPN, NPD-BC, EBP-C, for her exceptional contributions to nursing education and simulation training. As a Lead Nursing Professional Development Specialist and former Senior Simulation educator with the Center for Simulation, Advanced Education, and Innovation, Monachino is dedicated to enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals in pediatric life support and emergency response as well as incorporating Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) into nursing practice.

With a strong foundation in nursing education, Monachino holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chestnut Hill College and an Associate Degree in Nursing from the Community College of Philadelphia. She further advanced her expertise by earning a Master of Science in Nursing from Widener University and attained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Duquesne University. She was chosen to be a Helene Fuld Trust National Institute for EBP in Nursing and Healthcare DNP Post-Doctoral Fellow from 2022 to 2023 and serves as an Evidence-Based Practice Mentor for the Association for Nurses in Professional Development (ANPD) EBP Academy.

AnneMarie’s extensive certifications include having been a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor, and a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor. She currently holds certifications as a Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPD-BC), and in Evidence-Based Practice (EBP-C). These qualifications underscore her commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based education and training to healthcare professionals who care for children in critical situations. 

At CHOP, she plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing resuscitation-based simulations that effectively prepare nursing staff for real-life medical emergencies, specifically in the ambulatory setting. Her innovative approach to simulation education not only enhances the learning experience but also improves patient outcomes by ensuring that healthcare professionals are well-equipped to respond with confidence and competence.

AnneMarie has also contributed to the nursing field through her published works, which focus on the use of simulation as an educational strategy. Her research highlights the importance of realistic training environments in fostering critical thinking and clinical skills among nurses, ultimately leading to better preparedness in life-threatening situations.
