Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Antonio Mendoza Ladd, who serves patients in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Mendoza Ladd attended medical school at University of San Carlos de Guatemala where he graduated Cum Laude. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This was followed by an additional fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mendoza Ladd currently serves as the Director of Endoscopy at University Medical Center of El Paso, a renowned teaching and research hospital, equipped with some of the most advanced medical equipment and expertise in the region. The hospital is always pursuing the highest levels of expertise and resources to remain the standard-bearer of medical care that El Paso can depend on. During his time in El Paso, he has pioneered interventional endoscopy. Some of his achievements include performing the first EUS-directed transgastric ERCP, EUS-directed gallbladder drainage, EUS-directed gastroenterostomy and endoscopic submucosal dissection in the region; as well as the first endoscopic full thickness resection of colonic lesions in Texas

Dr. Mendoza  Ladd also serves as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso where he is a key clinical faculty member of the TTUHSC El Paso gastroenterology fellowship program.  He has trained several young gastroenterologists and has published several original articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Pancreaitc Association (APA); and fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).  In the AGA he was recently selected as one of 10 rising scholars from underrepresented minorities to participate in the Forging Opportunities Resulting in Workforce and Research Diversity (FORWARD) program.  He also serves as a member of the Equity Project Board, an AGA initiative to eliminate racism, discrimination and inequity in the field of GI in the United States.

His clinical interests include pancreatobiliary diseases, minimally invasive endoscopic therapautic techniques for gastrointestinal cancers (esophagus, stomach, small bowel, pancreas, liver, bile ducts, colon) and healthcare outcomes in Hispanics in the United States. On a more personal note, Dr. Ladd enjoys spending time with his wife Carolina De La Garza DVM and their dogs Chispa, Dudley and Napoleon.  His interests outside of medicine include philosophy, paleonthology and traveling. He is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks basic French.
