In addition to his stellar academic training and his vast experience as a cardiologist in Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter, he prides himself on his sincere desire to help others. With a broad educational background, Dr. Villa received his medical education from the Alberto Hurtado School of Medicine in Peru and from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon relocating to the United States, he performed a three-year internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine Hospitals; a residency elective rotation at the Cardiology Consult Service at The Johns Hopkins Hospital; a three-year fellowship in cardiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine Hospitals; and a two-year fellowship in interventional cardiology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

The doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

To boot, he is board-certified in endovascular medicine by the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM). The mission of the ABVM is to provide a high quality certification process to recognize expertise in the field of vascular medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Villa has successfully performed more than 12,000 coronary and peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. His elective cardiovascular procedures hospital mortality rate is zero.

Having held multiple academic and administrative appointments, his roles included: Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Health and Science Center at McAllen, Texas; Clinical Investigator Associate within the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation; Clinical Instructor within the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine; Internal Medicine Ward Attending at the University of Miami/V.A. Medical Center; Chief of Cardiology at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center (2001-2005); and Chief of Interventional Cardiology and Director Cardiac Cath. Labs (2005-2007). He also developed an extensive heart disease prevention and management program that has significantly improved the health of countless patients.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), Dr. Villa is a member of the American Heart Association: Clinical Cardiology Council, the Society of Vascular Medicine, the International Society of Endovascular Surgery, the International Society of Cardiovascular Interventionists, the American College of Phlebology, and the American College of Physicians.

Pertaining to his research efforts, Dr. Villa is the Principal Investigator for Multiple Cardiology and Cardiovascular Trials including: PLATO – Study of AZD6140 Compared with Clopidogrel for Prevention of Vascular Events in Patients with Non-ST or ST Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes (2006 – present); IMPROVE-IT – A Multicenter Study to Establish the Clinical Benefit and Safety of Vytorin vs Simvastatin Monotherapy in High-Risk Subjects Presenting with Acute Coronary Syndrome (2005 – present); ARRIVE – TAXUSòŸ’´ent Registry: Multi-Center Safety Surveillance Program (2004 – present); and TRITON TIMI-38 – A Comparison of CS-747 and Clopidogrel in Acute Coronary Syndrome Subjects who are to Undergo Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (2004 – present).
