Azita Madjidi, MD, MS, FACS, a Plastic Surgeon in Private Practice

Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. Azita Madjidi, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Well known in the United States, Britain, and France for her work, Dr. Madjidi is a board-certified plastic surgeon with a private practice in Houston, Texas. With unique training and background, her professional education and career are proof of her dedication to excellence in the performance of plastic surgery, both in adults and in children.

Having lived and practiced in various parts of the world, she has a unique perspective on the power of plastic surgery. No two patients have the same aesthetic goals, so Dr. Madjidi begins each case by developing a personal relationship with the patient. She will listen closely as they describe the enhancements they wish to achieve. After a thorough examination and consultation, she will offer her expert recommendations, and take time to thoroughly and patiently answer all questions.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Madjidi obtained her medical degree from Caen Medical School in Normandy, France. She completed her residency training and obtained the French Board certification in Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology in 1991, after which she was awarded a position in the prestigious Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris as Chief of Clinics-Assistant in Pediatric Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery. In this position, she taught medical students and residents in addition to performing reconstructive surgery in children with various birth defects including cleft lips and palates.

Born to a mother with a fine arts graduate degree, Dr. Madjidi grew up in art studios. Plastic surgery was a natural choice for her because she was always interested in the face. She trained with Dr. Paul Tessier, the father of craniofacial surgery both in Paris and in the United States. She also achieved a formal fellowship in craniofacial surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

In Paris, in 1995, Dr. Madjidi started a thriving cosmetic surgery private practice and a busy public practice in affiliation with Laennec Hospital, St. Vincent-de-Paul Children’s Hospital, and the St. Joseph Foundation Hospital. In 1998, she met her husband, Abdi Rasekh, and moved to Houston, where he was a cardiologist at the Texas Heart Institute.

Determined to continue to practice plastic surgery with high standards and a formal American training, she repeated the entire plastic surgery curriculum, including a microvascular fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.

Mother of two, Shahrzad and Sherwin, Dr. Madjidi also dedicates her time and skills to serve needy children with birth defects– mostly cleft lips and palates– through participation in numerous mission trips to Central America, Africa and the Middle East.

“It is important and legitimate to want to look better and to feel good about our appearance anytime it is altered by disease, trauma, birth defect, or aging. The body, especially the face, is a social tool. It’s the first thing anybody sees and it serves as a major instrument during interaction with others in our personal, professional and social life. By restoring a youthful face, an attractive bust or correcting prominent ears in a child, there is a tremendous psychological change that takes place. It is felt by the patient and the surrounding society and it can positively impact many aspects of our lives” expressed the doctor.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Madjidi is a member of the Harris County Medical Society, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Society of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Attributing her success to utilizing a personalized approach to patients and being multilingual, she has authored numerous peer review articles and book chapters in French, British, and American professional literature. She has given multiple presentations in English, French and Persian in plastic surgery societies both nationally and internationally.

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.

Born in Iran, raised in France and living in the United States, Dr. Madjidi strongly believes in true human values, mutual respect of all cultural and religious beliefs, and the power of diversity. She is fluent in Persian, French, English and Spanish, and is learning Arabic. This has enabled her to expand the scope of her plastic surgery practice to a very diverse population.

In her free time, she enjoys playing the flamenco guitar and piano, as well as ballroom dancing. Her favorite professional publication is PRS Journal.
