Get to know Acupuncturist Dr. BaoKu Liu, who practices in New York.

Dr. Liu is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in private practice with offices conveniently located in New York and New Hyde Park, New York. He compliments his acupuncture skills with physical therapy methodology, chiropractic care, X-ray review, CT scan and MRI findings, as well as the integration of Zhu’s Tendon & Ligament Stretching Technique.

In the context of his professional experience, he is the Vice Secretary / General and Managing Director of the Board of Directors of the Professional Committee of TCM Acupuncture Technique of WFCMS; Vice President of the Specialty Committee for Soft Tissue Injury of WFCMS; Member of the Work Council for Acupuncture Inheritance; Chairman of the Alumni Association of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the United States and Northern American countries; and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Acupuncture Profession of WeChat Group in the United States. 

In 1988, Dr. Liu graduated from Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a concentration in orthopedics and sports injuries. After graduation, he worked in the Department of Soft Tissue Injury at the Jilin Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine where he specialized in spinal pathology. He also obtained a Doctorate degree in Chinese Medicine with a specialization in Acupuncture. 

He immigrated to the United States in 1992 where he began his practice in integrating traditional acupuncture techniques with western medical techniques to treat soft tissue injuries. His treatment principles focused on the fascia, nervous system, meridian channels, and trigger points. 

After 29 years of studying, practicing, and dedicating his time to medical care as well as overseeing more than 200,000 patient treatments, Dr. Liu established a unique combination of classic and modern methods in his practice. He developed the following unique acupuncture techniques: Theory of Pathogenicity due to Scar Tissue; Scar Tissue Point (the pathological response of the point); Scar Tissue Acupuncture Release Technique (START); and Tuina & Massage Technique for  Fascia, Ligament, Tendon, Cartilage, and Bone Scar Tissue.

START is a safe, highly effective, and easy to learn acupuncture technique with fast-acting benefits in treating fascia diseases. It is also effective in treating cervical spondylosis, headache, dizziness, insomnia, depression, anxiety, panic, post-surgical scarring, periarthritis of the shoulder, lumbar disc herniation, and sports injuries.

Certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Dr. Liu is the inventor of the Double Acupuncture Needle technique which has patent rights both in China and the United States. He is also a member of the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
