A seasoned neurologist, Dr. Ludwig is affiliated with UCLA Neurology, seeing patients at the outpatient clinic in Los Angeles, California. He has also served as a Clinical Professor of Neurology at UCLA since 2003.

The Department of Neurology at UCLA was founded by Augustus S. Rose, MD, in the 1950s in the UCLA School of Medicine. It grew from a few faculty members in that era to more than 100 in present times. It is also the home to 125 trainees and is associated with seven affiliated hospitals. The faculty of the Department of Neurology are distinguished scientists and clinicians who have been ranked #1 or #2 in NIH funding since 2002.

Back in 1971, Dr. Ludwig earned his medical degree from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1971, followed by his residency in neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City in 1973-4 and 1995-1977. Between 1973 and 1975 he did research in brain injury and epilepsy at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland..

Recognized as a Fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and Diplomate of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Remaining up to date in his field, he is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, the California Medical Association, the Los Angeles County Medical Association, and the Brain Injury Association.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Ludwig has been the recipient of the Certificate of Distinction in Recognition of Outstanding Teaching of Neurology Residents and Students (2005 and again in 2013), and the Service Award for 40 Years of Service to the Residency Program (2018) by the UCLA Department of Neurology.
