A practicing dentist since 1981, Dr. Cunha knows how important having a great smile is to looking and feeling good. On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Cunha completed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry. He received the Oral Surgery Award as the top student in his class, and was inducted into the honorary dental society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He then completed a general practice residency with the U.S. Air Force in Mississippi, and spent two more years on active duty in San Angelo, Texas. He started civilian practice in both the Winchester and Lexington offices in 1984, while continuing to serve in the Air Force Reserves for over twenty years (retired Lt. Colonel).
While in the U.S. Air Force during Desert Storm, he also participated in several humanitarian medical missions to Honduras and Guatemala in Central America, Indian reservations in the United States, and Guyana in South America.
As for his training and experience, Dr. Cunha is a graduate of the Center for Professional Development in Scottsdale, Arizona, an intensive five-year postgraduate program in dentistry, and was subsequently selected to enter the master’s program, which he completed in 1994. For over twenty years, he has been a Research Evaluator for the Clinical Foundation, headquartered in Provo, Utah. The foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the testing of all existing products and techniques in dentistry. There are currently over 400 evaluators around the world.
Committed to excellence in dentistry, Dr. Cunha is a past Chairman of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, a Trustee of the Lexington Historical Society, a Trustee of the Liberties Condo Association, and an active member of the Lexington Minutemen, including past Company Commander. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the American Dental Society, and the Lexington Study Club.
