Dr. Sachs is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. Currently, he serves as Associate Executive Medical Director and Professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Sachs is currently licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina, Minnesota, and Arizona. 

Dr. Sachs earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1977. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Case Western Reserve University – University Hospitals in 1983, followed by his fellowship training in orthopedic surgery of the spine at Twin Cities Spine Center in 1984. 

Dr. Sachs is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). Founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, autonomous organization, the ABOS exists to serve the best interest of the public and the medical profession by establishing educational standards for orthopedic residents and by evaluating the initial and continuing qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. 

Dr. Sachs is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). FACS is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College.

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons, like Dr. Sachs, are devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.
