Born in Jerusalem, Israel, Dr. Fass attended Yeshiva University in New York and received his medical degree from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in New York, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital at Dartmouth Medical School, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. He then completed his fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at UCLA Medical Center, followed by an additional year of training in diabetes at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.
Among his involvement in regional continuing medical education for physicians, he chairs the yearly pediatric symposium. Moreover, he is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), which is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. Certification by the ABP has one objective, to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents.
Pediatric endocrinology is a medical subspecialty dealing with disorders of the endocrine glands, such as variations of physical growth and sexual development in childhood, diabetes, and many more. Pediatric endocrinologists, depending upon the age range of the patients they treat, care for patients from infancy to late adolescence and young adulthood. They treat Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, growth disorders, pubertal abnormalities, obesity, differences of sex development, bone and mineral disturbances, hypoglycemia, and other disorders relating to the adrenal, parathyroid, thyroid, and pituitary glands.
In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Fass has published articles and chapters in many areas relating to his field, as well as has contributed to the permanent archival collection of the American Academy of Pediatrics Library.
