Dr. Hothan-Zielinski, a dextrous general surgeon, is in practice with Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, Iowa, which she joined in May of 2013.

After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology/Chemistry from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, Dr. Hothan-Zielinski went on to obtain her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. Wanting to further her training, she completed her residency in general surgery at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Licensed in medicine and surgery in the States of Iowa and Wisconsin, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. She also holds a certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support. 

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
