Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Blake Clifton, who serves patients throughout the State of Colorado.

A highly trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Clifton joined the team of multidisciplinary orthopedic & sports medicine experts at gO Orthopedics in 2017. He entered the practice as a partner specializing in pediatric and adult sports medicine and total joint replacement. In his role as practice partner, he further rounds out gO Orthopedics’ highly specialized and comprehensive orthopedic program, providing young patients singular access to his unique expertise in pediatric orthopedic care.

Dedicated to the highest standard of patient care, he provides cutting-edge treatment options such as short stay joint replacements and accelerated rehabilitation allowing patients to get back to their favorite activities sooner after total joint replacement. He is one of only a few doctors in Colorado and across the country currently using this technique.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Clifton earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He then completed his surgical internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Subsequently, he completed an additional residency in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Cook Children’s Hospital, and was selected for a prestigious fellowship in pediatric and adult sports medicine at the University of New Mexico.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Among his other roles, Dr. Clifton is currently the Co-Medical Director for the NCAA teams at Western State University. He has authored or coauthored numerous articles published in prestigious scientific journals. In the past, he served as team physician for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and University of New Mexico Lobo Athletics.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Happily married, Dr. Clifton and his wife have five children and are very active in the Gunnison Valley community. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoys skiing, ski mountaineering, cycling, and dirt biking.
