An excellent plastic surgeon with specialty training in hand surgery, Dr. Abernathie is affiliated with Westmed Medical Group, seeing patients in Rye and Yonkers, New York. While practicing the breadth of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, he maintains specific interests in post-bariatric body contouring, breast reconstruction and treatment of upper extremity compression neuropathy and arthritis.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Abernathie received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with honors from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine and then completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey. He continued his training with the completion of a fellowship in hand surgery at New York University in 2014.

A member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the doctor is board-certified in plastic surgery and hand surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons (FACS). 

Among his other roles, he can be found on staff at Greenwich Hospital, Rye Ambulatory Surgery Center, and White Plains Hospital.

Plastic surgery can be reconstructive as well as cosmetic and pertain to any area of the body.  Plastic surgeons are trained in both surgical and non-surgical means to improve function and appearance. Specialty training in hand surgery allows improved ability to treat traumatic and non-traumatic issues pertaining to the hand, wrist, and upper extremity including problems such as fractures, arthritis, and disorders of tendons and nerves.  

Among his various accolades, Dr. Abernathie has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2017, 2016, 2015), On-Time Doctor Award (2017, 2016, 2015), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2015).
