Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Brian A. Murphy, who serves patients in Naperville, Illinois.
Being a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Murphy treats patients of all ages. Problems from the shoulder to the fingertips are his area of training and expertise. He has a specific interest in tendon surgery of the upper extremity, fracture care of the upper extremity, minimally invasive nerve decompression surgery, and shoulder replacement surgery.
In collaboration with Duly Health and Care, Dr. Murphy extends his services at both Medical Office Building 1 – Naperville Campus and Naperville Surgical Centre. Additionally, he serves as an attending physician at Edward Hospital.

A 1999 graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine (Missouri), Dr. Murphy went on to perform his internship at Louisiana State University Hospital (Shreveport) in 2000. Subsequently, he completed his residency at the Louisiana State University Medical Center (New Orleans) in 2004, followed by a fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 2005.
With over two decades of experience in his field, the doctor holds board certification in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
On a professional level, Dr. Murphy maintains active membership in several prominent medical organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Medical Association, the Chicago Society for Surgery of the Hand (where he served as a past President), the Illinois State Medical Society, and the DuPage County Medical Society.
Orthopedic Surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.
Attributing his success to the strong work ethic instilled in him by his parents, Dr. Murphy was honored with the prestigious Harry D. Morris Award in the year 2000.
On a more personal note, he enjoys playing tennis and soccer, golfing, cycling, and traveling.
