Brian McDonagh, MD

Get to know Dr. Brian McDonagh, who serves patients in Illinois.

Dr. McDonagh, with over 55 years of experience, is licensed to practice medicine in Illinois.

He discovered an aspect of medicine, restorative medicine, out of personal necessity. He had painful knees and didn’t like the traditional orthopedic surgical options. He found prolotherapy because it can heal degenerative arthritis. It worked fine on him and then a year later, neural prolotherapy emerged, which he felt was very effective in treating nerve disorders.

Dr. McDonagh studied them and decided to help bring them to the notice of the general public. He uses neural prolotherapy for many painful neurologic conditions, including migraine, fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia, CGRP, tennis elbow, and low back pain. More recently, he has discovered how dextrose injections can improve the strength in MS..

In regards to his educational background, Dr. McDonagh graduated with his medical degree from the School of Medicine at University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1968. He then went on to perform his internship at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education in 1970, and his residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University.

In 1980, he founded Vein Clinics of America, the first of its kind to treat vein disorders by image-guided injection to replace vein stripping surgery. His work was published in the Journal of Phlebology in 2002, and has since been performed in many countries.
