Dr. Bailey is a dual board-certified, fellowship-trained psychiatrist. Involved in mentoring, she is the Training Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program & a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine (UT Health San Antonio).  

Among her many roles, she serves on the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning with the American Psychiatric Association; provides consultation to the Medical Director of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the San Antonio Independent School District; and is the Medical Director of the Harvey J. Najim Hope Center, which provides outpatient services specifically for children with a history of trauma and abuse.

Her clinical practice primarily focuses on the assessment and treatment of childhood disorders. Dr. Bailey uses a family systems approach which involves the family, community, and the school system. Her expertise is in psychosocial issues and their influence on psychiatric illnesses, and she has extensive experience with children in foster care.

Academically, Dr. Bailey received her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1991. She then went on to complete an internship, residency in general psychiatry, and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at UT Health San Antonio. 

Seeking to improve patients’ quality of life, she is board-certified in both psychiatry & child and adolescent psychiatry by the the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Involved in clinical, teaching, and research activities, Dr. Bailey has served in leadership roles on local, state, and national committees involving psychiatry and children. She has served as president of the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and the Bexar County Psychiatric Society; has served as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; has been a coordinator in directing and organizing the site for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Oral Board Examinations in San Antonio, Texas; and has been an APA Transformational Leader, providing consultation to the Virgin Islands mental health authority. 

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Bailey is an active member of The Balanced Mind parent network.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders.
