Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Wakefield graduated from the University of Missouri- Columbia in 1995. She then attended Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU-SDM) and earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry Degree in 2000.
After dental school, Dr. Wakefield continued her dental education and attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. She was elected chief resident in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and received her Specialty Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 2002.
From 2002-2004, she served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at SIU-SDM. In 2011, she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Howard University for her commitment to community service and the profession. She also received the Excellence in Healthcare Award in 2013 by the St. Louis American Newspaper.
Board certified in pediatric dentistry, Dr. Wakefield holds the esteemed title of Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). The ABPD is the certifying board for the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry.
Among her professional dental affiliations, Dr. Wakefield is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society.
Further exemplifying her commitment to the field, she holds the title of Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry dealing with children from birth through adolescence. Pediatric dentists specialize in oral care for infants, toddlers, children, and teenagers.
