Sherman, MD, FACP, who served as the Chief Medical Officer and is now Emeritus. With over 35 years of experience in clinical research and pharmaceutical development, Dr. Sherman has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in the area of rare diseases.

Dr. Sherman’s journey began with a strong educational foundation, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Lake Forest College and his Medical Degree from Chicago Medical School-Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. His commitment to excellence continued at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, ultimately serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Sherman further honed his expertise with fellowship training in infectious diseases at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF), where he also contributed as a research associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, specializing in allergy and immunology.

As a recognized Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Sherman is board-certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). His extensive experience includes key roles at renowned pharmaceutical companies such as IDM Pharma, Takeda Global Research and Development, NeoPharm, Searle/Pharmacia, and Squibb/Bristol-Myers Squibb. Throughout his career, he has played a vital role in various advisory boards and committees, including serving as the chair of the Drug Information Association (DIA) Board of Directors, where he received an Outstanding Service Award for his leadership.

In addition to his corporate contributions, Dr. Sherman has served as a liaison to the FDA Clinical Trial Transformation Initiative (CTTI) Steering Committee and has been an active member of the Board of Advisors for the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP). His dedication to shaping policy and advancing clinical research methodologies has made a significant impact on the industry.

Dr. Sherman’s philanthropic efforts highlight his commitment to rare disease research and patient advocacy. His involvement with the Global Genes Medical and Scientific Advisory Board, as well as the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD) and the European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS), showcases his relentless pursuit of improving patient care and developing innovative therapies.

Reflecting on his illustrious career, Dr. Sherman attributes his success to the mentorship of esteemed colleagues such as Dr. Lewis Smith and Dr. John Alexander, as well as the unwavering support of his family.
