A native of Nigeria, Dr. Famoyin graduated with his medical degree from the University of Ibadan (UI) College of Medicine in 1992, and completed an internship at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 1993, before joining a family practice in Ghana (Aninwah Medical Center) until 1996. 

After relocating to the United States, he served as a research assistant in Molecular Neurobiology at the Cornell University Medical College in New York until 1999. He then went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center (UMMC) in 2002, and completed his fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess  Medical Center and Harvard University (focusing on Kidney cancer, Melanoma and HIV Oncology), where he also served as an Instructor in Medicine, in 2005.

On a professional level, Dr. Famoyin is an active member of the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He was an Assistant Professor and Clinician at UMMC and Harrington Hospital, focusing on melanoma and kidney cancer, before moving to Tennessee in 2007.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, and a rare hematologic related syndromes, and diseases. 

An authority in his field, Dr. Famoyin has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2018), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018).
