Dr. Rizzo is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, shoulder surgery, and knee surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

This was followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Rothman Orthopaedics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this specialized training, he served as an assistant team physician for several professional teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Philadelphia Phillies, as well as numerous college and high school teams.

Among the doctor’s many professional achievements, he has served as a Master Instructor at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago, teaching other orthopaedic surgeons the most current techniques in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. He has also written articles for publication on the topic of knee and shoulder instability, and is currently involved in research and development of new surgical techniques.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery, with subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine, by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. 

Orthopaedic surgery or orthopaedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
