Get to know Dentist Dr. Charmaine Johnson-Leong, who serves patients in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Known for her competent and friendly care, Dr. Johnson-Leong is a highly trained and skilled general and cosmetic dentist. She understands the importance of a healthy and beautiful smile on a personal level as she was inspired by her positive experience with orthodontics to become a dentist. In 2005, she opened Premier Smile Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
There, she and her staff provide comprehensive dental services, from cleanings and maintenance to dental implants and complex full-mouth smile makeovers. They offer a warm and friendly atmosphere and treat each patient as they would family.

Following the completion of her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1995, Dr. Johnson-Leong relocated to the United States to further her training. She completed her General Practice Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001.
Thereafter, she has served as the Assistant Director of the General Practice Residency program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and for two years, she was an adjunct faculty member for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at Nova Southeastern University.
To advance her professional efforts, she remains an active member of the following professional organizations: the Organization of Special Care in Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Chicago Dental Society, the Illinois Dental Society, the Florida Dental Association, and the Private Dental Association (Founding member). She has also been serving on the Commission of Dental Accreditation since 2003.
With a passion for changing people’s lives through dentistry, Dr. Johnson-Leong takes a highly individualized approach to enhancing one’s smile. She will work closely with each patient and do extensive planning to help them attain a smile that is aesthetic and natural-looking. She enjoys seeing her patients’ faces after placing beautiful crowns or completely transforming their smiles.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
With an eye for aesthetics and a passion for cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Johnson-Leong’s research in various areas of dentistry has been published in Dentistry Today and The Journal of the American Dental Association.
Active in the community, she and her staff take part in many charitable activities that support the local community and beyond. They participate in Freedom Day USA, providing free dentistry to veterans. They also support their local baseball team at Westminster Academy and help raise funds for two wells for schools in rural South Africa. In 2017, the dental practice participated in the Florida AIDS Walk.
Outside of the office, Dr. Johnson-Leong stays active with tennis, aerobics, and Latin American dance. She also enjoys pottery, flower arranging, and volunteering her time at the Oak Park Animal Care League and the Oak Park Conservatory. Her favorite place to vacation is anywhere in the world.
