Chiamaka Nnamani, MD, FAAP, a Pediatrician with Pinnacle Health Annville Family Medicine

Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Chiamaka Nnamani, who serves patients in Annville, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Nnamani (fondly known by her patients as Dr. O, stemming from her maiden name, Onyewuchi) is a pediatrician at PinnacleHealth Annville Family Medicine who sees children from birth through age 18.

She is also a moderator with Dr. Milk, a Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Chapter – American Academy of Pediatrics, and a pediatric hospitalist at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute.

Absolutely passionate about children, Dr. Nnamani has quite a few clinical interests within pediatrics. Some of them include early childhood education, child advocacy, and child development. She firmly believes in mentoring children to be the best version of themselves, no matter their economic situations, so that they can rise above adversity.

“For me, it was always pediatrics. I’m generally a very silly person, and in practicing pediatric medicine, I felt like I could just be myself. I also love to be part of the journey of seeing children grow from birth to full-grown humans. Pediatrics is the only field of medicine where you have the privilege of getting to see a patient evolve from newborn, to their first words, to conversations, to becoming an adult” expressed Dr. Nnamani.

Her greatest advice to parents would be to invest in the education of their child, and create a passion in them for learning. They (and you) will reap the fruits of your investment.

Born in Houston, Dr. Nnamani grew up in Nigeria until she returned to the United States to go to college and medical school. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from George Mason University in 2006, and her medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in 2011. She then furthered her training with a residency in pediatrics with the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in 2014.

“I knew from age nine or 10 that I wanted to be a doctor. I loved and adored my family doctor. He was relatable, gentle, and passionate. I thought, ‘I want to be like that.’ In a subtle way, he mentored me and guided me toward medicine” stated Dr. Nnamani.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), she is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

A very passionate breastfeeding advocate, Dr. Nnamani is on a mission to advance breastfeeding equity and belonging (especially in communities of color and communities of low socioeconomic status), one person and community at a time. She is also a two-time grant recipient from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends individuals be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.

A #1 best-selling author & member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Dr. Nnamani wrote the children’s picture book on breastfeeding, ‘Ziora’s Quest: Mommy’s Milk Rocks!’ The book tells the story of a six-year-old big sister who wished for a little sister but soon realizes that Sissy just wants to breastfeed all the time. Transported through a portal to the amazing world of Milky White, she meets with her pediatrician and learns the true power of and fun facts about breast milk.

Happily married, Dr. Nnamani and her husband are the parents of three beautiful children – two girls and a boy. The spa and the beach are her happy places. She also loves to read biographies/autobiographies, travel, dance, watch comedies, and shop.
