Born in Tokyo, Japan to Taiwanese parents, Dr. Gibson immigrated with her family (twin sister Ping and sister Chen) to Texas to pursue the American Dream in 1971. She graduated with her psychology degree from the University of Washington in 1991, after which she went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 1995.
There, she was a Merit Scholar who received “Excellence Awards” in operative dentistry and prosthodontics. Dr. Gibson also served as a clinical instructor at Tufts’ Department of Restorative Dentistry.
Her continuing education courses encompass all aspects of dental care, with a focus on cosmetic dentistry. She completed advanced aesthetic dentistry training at The Center For Esthetic Excellence in Chicago and graduated with honors from The Hornbrook Center for Advanced Clinical Education, an achievement obtained by 1% of dentists nationwide.
Serving on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) for 8 years, Dr. Gibson was elected Vice President, becoming its 2016-2017 President.
She is a Fellow of The International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE) and an Adjunct Professor within the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. These honors reflect her exceptional reputation, making Dr. Gibson one of the most sought-after general and cosmetic dentists in the country.
Additional affiliations include the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Association of Women Dentists, the American Dental Association, the Chicago Dental Society, the Fox Valley Dental Society, and the Illinois State Dental Society.
A published author, Dr. Gibson writes a bi-weekly column entitled “Open Wide” for the Naperville Sun Times and has been published in leading dental magazines.
In demand as a speaker, she has lectured at the Chicago Dental Society, the California Dental Society, and the American Dental Association’s scientific sessions. She is also involved in numerous charitable foundations, often speaking on “The American dream is alive and well” and “The importance of proper dental healthcare”.

Due to her outstanding accomplishments in pioneering women in dentistry, Dr. Gibson was featured on the cover of the American Association of Women Dentists Magazine. She was also featured on the April 2016 cover of dentistry’s largest circulated magazine, Dentistry Today, again for numerous accomplishments in the industry.
Tri-Delta Sorority honored Dr. Gibson as 1 of only 66 “Distinguished Delta Alumni” in its 108-year history, joining Katie Couric, Senator Elizabeth Dole, Dixie Carter Catherine Crier, Deborah Norville, and Molly Simms.
Happily married, Dr. Gibson and her husband, Jim Gibson, an Emmy Award-winning TV host and business entrepreneur, reside in Sugar Grove, Illinois. They have a son, James III, and a daughter, Joby.
