Veronica Schimp, DO, is chief of Gynecologic Oncology at Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center and chair of the Robotics/Minimally Invasive Surgical Quality Committee at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology ABOG.

The University of Florida (UF) Health Cancer Center provides Central Florida with one of the most comprehensive and specialized cancer programs in the region- from screening and early detection, to diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Dr. Schimp earned a degree in biology and chemistry from Lake Superior State University in Michigan. Lake Superior State University (Lake State) is a public university in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  She completed her residency in general surgery at St. John Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights, MI.

She also completed another residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Hutzel Hospital, Wayne State University  in Detroit. It is a four-year program sponsored by the the Detroit Medical Center, one of the largest OBGYN training programs in the nation.

The Detroit Medical Center residency program in Obstetrics & Gynecology draws strength from the diversity and expertise of Wayne State University faculty, and its close association with the Perinatology Research Branch of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development National Institutes of Health.

She then gained a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. She was awarded the Patient’s Choice Award and America’s Top Oncologists Award, and was named as one of the Best Doctors in America as well as nominated for the Consumer’s’ Guide to Top Doctors.

Dr. Schimp is a member of several organizations, including the International Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Society of Surgical Laparoscopists.

She has written for two medical books, as well as numerous articles and case studies on cancer of the female reproductive organs, Dr. Schimp has presented at more than 50 seminars and conferences.

The doctor’s specialities include the care of women with gynecologic malignancies such as ovarian, fallopian tube, uterine, cervix, vaginal and vulvar cancer. She incorporates surgical techniques that include fertility sparing procedures, chemotherapy, clinical trials and radiation therapy.

Experienced in performing minimally invasive robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System, Dr. Schimp is an expert reviewer of other doctors performing robotic surgery through the C-SATS performance review and training program.
