Get to know Medical Oncologist Dr. Christi Kim, who serves patients in New York. 

Dr. Kim is a board-certified physician in internal medicine and medical oncology. She works at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, operating out of the offices in Babylon and Patchogue, New York. 

Her special interests are women’s cancer care, clinical research, and collaboration with others that can impact the best possible treatment, care and outcome.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Kim received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine, serving as chief resident, and fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Passionate about her profession, she is board-certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, she is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Hematology.

An active member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), Dr. Kim serves as the primary investigator for GOG sponsored clinical trials. Currently, she is a primary investigator for phase 3 GOG-3059 clinical trial for platinum-refractory ovarian cancer which is ongoing and available at NYCBS.

She was an invited speaker for the New York Colorectal Cancer Survivorship and Support Group. Additionally, she was appointed as a clinical practice committee member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, co-authored the SGO clinical practice guideline, and served as an advisory board in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphoma.

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical oncologist is a doctor who has special training in diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy. He or she is often the main health care provider for someone who has cancer.

A National Cancer Institute investigator, Dr. Kim has published articles in hematology and oncology peer-reviewed medical journals. She co-authored “Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Gynecologic Tract Update,” which was accepted for final publication in Gynecologic Oncology, the official publication of the SGO.

On a more personal note, she is fluent in both English and Korean.
