A principal investigator in heart failure and cardiovascular genetic studies, Dr. Zellner is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Furthermore, he holds board certifications in nuclear cardiology through the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, and in echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography.
Interventional cardiology is a non-surgical option which uses a small, flexible tube called a catheter to repair damaged or weakened vessels, narrowed arteries, or other affected parts of the heart structure. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.
Recognized for his academic and clinical work, Dr. Zellner received prestigious Fellowship Awards by the American Heart Association and the Heart Failure Society of America. His dedication to clinical cardiology and teaching was recognized by the UCSF House Staff Stethoscope Award.
Among his other accolades include Patients’ Choice Award (2018), On-Time Doctor Award (2018), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018).
