A seasoned internist, Dr. MacGinnis serves as the Co-Director of Learning Communities, Head of Tatnuck House, and Tatnuck House Mentor at UMass Memorial Medical Center. She has dedicated her career to enhancing medical education, preventative care, and patient advocacy, making her a vital asset to the institution.

A graduate of Boston University, she initially pursued a career as a physical therapist before embarking on her journey in medicine. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine. She completed her internal medicine residency at UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she distinguished herself as chief resident during her final year, showcasing her leadership and commitment to excellence in patient care.

In her dual role as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and a master clinical educator, Dr. MacGinnis actively engages with medical residents, providing essential training in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her teaching focuses on bedside clinical skills, ward teaching, and outpatient clinic supervision. Notably, she has played a key role in educating residents through opioid educational Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), highlighting her dedication to addressing critical issues in modern healthcare.

Dr. MacGinnis’s research interests align with her passion for improving patient outcomes and enhancing healthcare quality. She is particularly focused on educational interventions, quality improvement in geriatric medication management, and the management of opioids in outpatient settings. Her work is instrumental in ensuring that UMass Memorial Medical Center remains at the forefront of medical education and patient care.

Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys family life in Oxford with her husband, Roger, and their three sons, Conor, Ian, and Ben.
