He then went on to perform his internship at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, followed by his residency in Diagnostic Radiology and his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology, both at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Baalmann’s practice includes both outpatient and inpatient Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology services.  He uses small catheters to treat diseases all over the body and utilizes minimally invasive techniques and procedures to reduce side effects often seen with surgery. This includes treating cancers by using small catheters to deliver targeted therapies like particles emiting radiation into arteries directly supplying cancer in the liver.  He uses small catheters to block arteries bleeding from trauma and can also deliver small particles into arteries supplying organs like the uterus or prostate which reduces bleeding or bulk pain symptoms from fibroids in the uterus or urinating symptoms from an enlarged prostate.  He uses catheters inside of blood vessels to remove life-threatening blood clots from the lungs or to remove blood clots and treat blockages in arteries and veins in the legs that can be limb threatening or leading to disability.

His practice is focused on working as a member of a multidisciplinary team to diagnose and treat liver cancer, a cancer which his grandfather passed away from while he was in college.  His practice also focuses on opening up arteries to help wounds in the legs or feet heal in order to avoid amputation.  He also does a minimally invasive procedure called kyphoplasty which injects material through a small needle into fractures in the spine and pelvis which reduces pain, assists with healing, and improves disability.

Dr. Baalman credits his dedication to serving patients to his mother who practiced medicine as a Pediatrician, his work ethic to his father and grandparents who raised him on a family farm in Kansas, and his accomplishments to his wife Amelia who has continuously sacrified and supported him through every step of his training to become a physician.

Board certified in both Diagnostic radiology and Interventional Radiology, Dr. Baalmann is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties.
