From Military Service to Private Sector Excellence – Celebrating a Legacy of Dedication in Healthcare
Corey Merritt, CRNA, MSN, RN, MAJ(ret), a distinguished Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, has made significant strides in the field of healthcare, combining a rich academic background with extensive clinical experience.
Beginning his educational journey at Jefferson Community College, Corey earned his Associate of Science in Registered Nursing in 1999. He further pursued his education at California University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing in 2004. His pursuit of knowledge culminated in 2010 when he earned a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia from Northeastern University, showcasing his commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
Corey’s healthcare career began in October 1988 as a Medical Laboratory Specialist in the Army. During his enlisted time through multiple deployments, he cross-trained in various medical roles to include X-ray, pharmacy, and obtained his basic EMT. His first nursing position was in 1999 as a civilian working on a Telemetry/Stepdown unit, where he gained valuable experience in not only caring for patients but caring for nurses while being in charge. In 2005, he returned to the Army, deploying to Iraq. In June 2007, he transitioned to become a CRNA, dedicating over 13 years of service to the U.S. Army as a Nurse. During his 21+ year tenure with the military, Corey exemplified exceptional dedication and skill, earning respect and admiration among peers and patients alike. Upon retiring from military service in July 2018, he transitioned to the private sector and subsequently formed CJAM Enterprises in April 2021, where he continues to deliver high-quality anesthesia care. He is currently working on a new venture to help CRNAs and Nurses alike secure the best-fit positions for them in continuing high-quality care for patients and work satisfaction for themselves. He continues to work with Army CRNA students and military patients in his community.
In addition to his clinical role, Corey is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), a professional association that advocates for nurse anesthetists across the United States. His involvement with the AANA highlights his commitment to advancing the profession and ensuring the highest standards of care for patients.
Corey attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family and a deep-seated passion for his work. He believes in the importance of patient advocacy and continually seeks to enhance his skills to provide the best possible care.
