During his time there, he worked closely with Virginia Tech athletes, an experience that fostered his passion for sports medicine. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwell Health Plainview Hospital. He excelled on staff, earning the title of Chief Resident. 

Subsequently, he moved to Houston, Texas, and participated in a year of fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. As part of this prestigious fellowship, he served on the medical staff of the 2017 World Series Champions Houston Astros. In this position, he trained under many exceptional surgeons and used his sports medicine knowledge to help elite athletes improve their performance on the field.

An authority in his field, Dr. Mathew has written a chapter, several articles and published videos to educate and train other physicians.  He continues to learn and obtain modern innovative techniques to provide his patients state of the art treatments.

Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Mathew is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

In addition to working with athletes in Major League Baseball, he has also served on staff with Rice University Athletics, the Houston Rockets, and the Houston Texans. He is currently the team physician for the Houston Athletic Rugby Club, as well as several local schools.
