Dr. Carlyn graduated with her Medical Degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1988, giving her over three decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her medical degree she completed her internal medicine Residency and her Medical Microbiology Fellowship from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Furthering her training she completed a Fellowship in Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Emerging Infectious Diseases, and additionally she completed a course in Biomedical Ethics at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Carlyn is certified in Infectious Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay up to date in her field, she remains a professional member of the Infectious Disease Society of America and has been inducted as a Fellow of the Emergency Infectious Diseases Society of America. She has been recognized by Joint Commission Surveyor as providing exceptional care to veteran patients during 2015 JC survey. She contributes to various charities and is a member of the Maimonedes Society and the Temple Israel Congregation. Dr. Carlyn currently serves as the Chief Infectious Disease and the Chair Infection Prevention with the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center where she has an expertise in Infectious Disease.
Infectious disease specialists identify whether the disease is caused by germs, ranging from flu to hospital acquired infections to pneumonia, often discovered through blood tests and then determine what course of treatment, if any, is necessary.
Dr. Carlyn attributes her professional success to her parents and her faith instilling a strong work ethic and striving to do the most with what you are given in the world, and wanting to pay it forward. When not working, she enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and swimming.
