Growing up in San Diego, Dr. Alyesh studied chemistry at the University of California San Diego and graduated with the highest distinction. He attended medical school at Georgetown University, during which time he was a Hammerman and J.T. Tai Scholar. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Allen Goody and J.I. Cherner awards for peer mentorship, scholarship, and clinical research. He underwent specialty training in both cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Michigan and served as a Chief Fellow.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and clinical cardiac electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Throughout his career, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and book chapters, with his work appearing in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the European Heart Journal, Circulation: Quality and Outcomes, and the American Journal of Medicine, Heart Rhythm Journal, Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology amongst many others.
Furthermore, Dr. Alyesh has presented at national meetings and has served in leadership positions for the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). He was a guest editor for the ACC’s Cardiosmart atrial fibrillation section. He is a correspondant and host for programming for Heart Rhythm TV, the media outlet for the Heart Rhythm Society. He is dedicated to improving healthcare with patients as partners and has completed rigorous training in quality improvement at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston.
Clinical cardiac electrophysiology (also referred to as cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia services, or electrophysiology), is a branch of the medical specialty of cardiology and is concerned with the study and treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart. An electrophysiologist is a type of cardiologist. They focus on the heart’s timing, or electrical system, and on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias. They are also qualified to perform special tests of the heart’s electrical system, such as an electrophysiology study or an ablation.
Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, playing music and spending time with his wife, three sons, and dog.
