Get to know Infertility & Reproductive Medicine Specialist Dr. Daniel Shapiro, who serves the population of Georgia.
Dr. Daniel Shapiro has been practicing with Reproductive Biology Associates for over two decades, and currently serves as a medical director.
Reproductive Biology Associates was established in 1983 as Georgia’s first IVF program. And that was only the first of many ‘firsts’ for them: RBA became the first practice in the state to produce an IVF birth. The first on the East Coast to achieve pregnancy from a frozen embryo. The first in the Western Hemisphere to report a birth from frozen donor eggs. They have remained steadfast in our commitment to the development of revolutionary technologies and techniques to enhance pregnancy outcomes.
Dr. Shapiro completed his undergraduate from Bowdoin College where he graduated Magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. Furthering his education, he graduated with his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine, during his time there he became interested in reproductive medicine by doing a research project with RBA in 1987. After obtaining his medical degree he completed his residency with Pennsylvania Hospital. Furthering his training he completed his Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship from the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine.
Dr. Shapiro is dual certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Their mission is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
Dr. Shapiro has authored and/or co-authored many scientific papers. He is nationally and internationally known for his work with GnRH antagonists in IVF treatment and has consulted with other practices regarding the efficient use of these drugs. With the advances made in egg freezing by RBA’s lab, under Dr. Peter Nagy, Dr. Shapiro led the effort to establish a working clinical model for RBA’s egg bank. Since the opening of the frozen egg bank for egg donation in 2007, Dr. Shapiro has acted as its clinical manager.
To stay up to date in his field, he remains a professional member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Society of Reproductive Endocrinologists.
