An exceptional orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Terrell has been on St. Bernard Hospital’s staff since 2011. She currently serves as the Medical Director of Clinical Programming and Health Outcomes. In this role, Terrell develops the safety-net hospital’s community health initiatives with an emphasis on patient education, preventive care, improved patient outcomes and health disparities. She also serves as Chair of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff.
Throughout her career, she has been known for her expertise, concern for the community and high standards for patient service. She plays an integral role in the hospital’s efforts to address the health disparities that threaten the well-being of local residents. She also works with communities on Chicago’s South Side to have an impact on treatment of diabetes, behavioral health, high blood pressure and preventative health.
Pertaining to her educational pursuits, Dr. Terrell graduated with her medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1996, before completing two consecutive residencies in orthopedic surgery at Columbia Saint Luke’s Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1999 and 2002, respectively. She then went on to complete her fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in 2004.
In her professional experience, she is Wound Care Certified by the National Alliance of Wound Care, and she has been an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. Additionally, she has earned numerous awards and fellowships.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
