Dr. Carr-Locke completed his undergraduate degree from Cambridge University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Art in 1969. Wanting to further his education he graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Cambridge in 1972, giving him over four decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his Medical Degree he completed his internship with Middlesex Hospital and residency with Kettering General Hospital, England. He then completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Leicester, England and undertook a clinical research fellowship in gastroenterology at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA.

Dr. Carr-Locke was President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2002 and received their highest award, the Rudolf V. Schindler Award, in 2007. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology and is currently on the Governing Council of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He was formerly Director of Endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Chief of Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center, New York and is currently the Clinical Director of the Center for Advanced Digestive Care at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organs including the movement of material through the stomach and intestine (motility), the digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, removal of waste from the system, and the function of the liver as a digestive organ. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.  Dr Carr-Locke is a recognized international expert in the field of therapeutic endoscopy.
