Dr. Kershner received his Master of Science (MS) degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1996. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree from St. Matthew’s College of Medicine in 2001. Wanting to further his education, Dr. Kershner completed his PhD in Neurology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2002. He also completed his PhD in Epidemiology/Endocrinology at Walden University in 2011.

Before beginning his medical career, Dr. Kershner was serving in the 1/4 CAV in the United States Army and is a combat veteran of Iraq. He continued his military career with the United States Air Force, where he was trained in Aerospace Medicine and served as a flight surgeon. Dr. Kershner continues to serve the military community at Offutt Air Force Base as a reservist. He has lived in various locations with the military, but has spent the greater part of his medical career serving patients in the Omaha, Nebraska area.

While balancing his medical and military careers, Dr. Kershner became well known for his multiple publications and esteemed degrees. Notably, he published cutting edge research for NASA, studying lumbar intrathecal ligaments in astronauts during microgravity. This publication has helped researchers to better understand lumbar pain in astronauts during space flight and has led to further studies on the subject.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Epidemiology is the branch of medicine which deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health. As an Endocrinologist & Epidemiologist, Dr. Kershner specializes in Diabetes and Insulin Resistance Management. He is a leading expert in Insulin Resistance, as he has designed and developed clinical laboratory testing for this disease. This testing accurately identifies Insulin Resistance, thereby allowing appropriate diagnosis and treatment. It also reduces production of Type 2 Diabetes in patients, while preventing other illnesses related to abnormalities in insulin production.
