Dr. Ranson graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1981 and completed a five-year surgical residency at the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine – Charleston Division at Charleston Area Medical Center. He has additional training in plastic surgery and burn care.
Dr. Ranson is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the WVU School of Medicine – Charleston Division. He is also the Cancer Liaison Physician for the American College of Surgeons, as well as the Director of the Breast Center of Thomas Health Care Systems.
Dr. Ranson is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS). The ASBrS – the primary leadership organization for general surgeons who treat patients with breast disease – is committed to continually improving the practice of breast surgery by serving as an advocate for surgeons who seek excellence in the care of breast patients. This mission is accomplished by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and by promoting education, research, and the development of advanced surgical techniques.
Dr. Ranson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). FACS is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College.
