Get to know Registered Nurse Debora G. Weiss, who serves patients in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Debora is a registered nurse who has been in practice for over 20 years. She is currently holds the position of Unit Manager at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center – a Genesis HealthCare facility located at Fall River, Massachusetts. Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center offers a specialized Transitional Care Unit for patients needing rehabilitative care or continued medical management after a hospital stay. The professional, dedicated, and compassionate staff working there strive to assist each patient in the development of their individualized treatment program.

Debora specializes in long-term care. Long-term care is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves for long periods. 

When her daughter was terminally ill, Debora spent a lot of time in the hospital. She saw the compassion and care that the nurses gave her daughter and she knew that she wanted to give back as well. Due to financial circumstances, Debora was unable to enroll in nursing school after her daughter’s passing; however, her grandmother, who believed in her, left her the means to follow her dream when she passed. 

In 1999, Debora earned her LPN from Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School. Thereafter, she went on to earn her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Massachusetts Bay Community College in 2004. She is currently expected to graduate with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Fisher College in 2020. She also has plans to obtain her Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Education. 

Debora is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Massachusetts Nurses Association. Debora holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Telemetry. Debora’s research interests include fall reduction, reductions of unnecessary medication in the elderly, reduction of hospital readmission, and compassionate caregiving. 

When asked how she makes a difference in the lives of her patients, Debora answered “compassionate caring.” She strives to get to know her patients as individuals, letting them know that she is genuine and that she sincerely cares about them. She wants them to be happy and to feel cared for / about. 

When asked what motivates her at the start of each day, Debora answered “Knowing that I enjoy going into work every day as much as I like going home. I go in knowing I can make a difference, not only in my residents/patients lives, but also in the lives of families, as well as my staff.”

Debora attributes her success to being able to help and care for others, thereby making a difference in their lives. She also has a very supportive family and friends who appreciate and encourage her dreams and the work that she does.

A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to the primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
