Dr. Granado-Villar is a trusted pediatrician in Miami, Florida. She joined Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in 1984, where she currently serves as Senior Vice President for Medical and Academic Affairs and Chief Medical Officer.

Providing medical, academic and administrative leadership to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital medical community, Dr. Granado-Villar is accountable to the Board of Directors for the quality, safety and efficiency of clinical services within the Hospital. She is also responsible for the effectiveness of the patient care review and other assessment functions delegated to the Medical Staff in conjunction with the Medical Executive Committee.

With a solid educational background, Dr. Granado-Villar received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Miami. She then went on to earn her Medical Degree from the School of Medicine at Eastern Central University in the Dominican Republic in 1982.

During her career at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Dr. Granado-Villar was appointed as the Program Coordinator for Preventive Medicine in July of 1991; Director of the Division of Preventive Medicine and Community Pediatrics in July of 1999; Medical Director of Miami Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Care Center in June of 2002; Chief of the Department of Pediatric Medicine in January of 2004; Vice-President of the Medical Staff in January of 2007; and Interim Chief Medical Officer in July of 2008.

Holding professional affiliations, Dr. Granado-Villar is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Florida Pediatric Society, the Global Advisory Committee on the Prevention and Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses, the World Health Organization, the Miami Dade County Public School Health Advisory Board, Florida Partnership for School Readiness, Healthy Child Care America Medical Liaison for Florida, and the American Academy of Pediatric Community Access to Child Health. 

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends individuals be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.

Honored for her leadership in advocating for children and for developing programs that extend medical care to the underserved, Dr. Granado-Villar was awarded a “Hispanic Star Award” as the Hispanic Health Professional at the Miami International Mall Hispanic Heritage Celebration.
