Dr. Mathe graduated with her Bachelor of Science with her Bachelor of Science from Washington University in St. Louis majoring in Biomedical Engineering, in 2002. She then attended Vanderbilt University where she graduated with her Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering in 2004. Wanting to further her education she then graduated with her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. After obtaining her Doctor of Optometry Degree she completed her Ocular and Refractive Surgery residency with the Wang Vision Institute in affiliation with Indiana University School of Optometry.
Dr. Mathe is Certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease, and the American Board of Optometry. and Licensed by the Tennessee State Board of Optometry. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the American Optometric Association. Tennessee Optometric Association, and the Middle Tennessee Optometric Society as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
She currently practices with Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is the Co-Author of the American Optometric Associations Cornea and Contact Lens Section Newsletter. She holds an expertise in Primary care, Refractive and ocular surgery management, and Post-surgical and specialty contact lens fitting.
Optometry is a health care profession which involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities as well as the medical diagnosis and management of eye disease. Traditionally, the field of optometry began with the primary focus of correcting refractive error through the use of spectacles.
