Union Health Services serves approximately 48,000 members and their dependents with a staff of 50 full-time primary care physicians, over 70 part-time specialists, at their medical facilities. UHS core hospitals include: Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Rush-Copley Medical Center, Rush-Oak Park Hospital, and the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System.

Earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota in 1969, Dr. McCulley taught marine biology at Kennedy High School in Edina, Minnesota. Rejoining her family in Chicago, she earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Chicago in 1971. That year, she worked as a night administrator at the Chicago Foundling Home. She enrolled in Rush University Medical College, completing the requirements for a medical degree in 1974. Years later, in 1979, she became an attending physician at Cook County Hospital and a senior attending physician at Provident Medical Center. The following year, she became an associate attending physician at South Shore Hospital and a consulting physician at Jackson Park Hospital. She served in all four of these positions simultaneously. 

In 1989, while still caring for patients at Jackson Park and South Shore Hospitals, Dr. McCulley was hired as an attending physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. An associate attending physician at Michael Reese Hospital since 1993, she also serves as an attending physician at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, Illinois.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Teaching medicine throughout her career, Dr. McCulley began in the Infectious Disease Teaching Program at Cook County Hospital in 1974, and taught for six years as a professor of medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. She volunteered at South Suburban Hospice in Flossmoor, Illinois as a medical director and counseled children at Brave Heart. She was also an administrator, serving as medical director for several medical centers, including: Provident Hospital, Bogan/ DuSable Adolescent Health Center, and Crane Adolescent Health Center. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

On a more personal note, Dr. McCulley and her husband, Bernard McCulley, have been married since 1970. Her favorite color is blue, her favorite food is geens, her favorite time of year is summer, and her favorite vacation spot is anywhere wam.
