Dr. Curt Samlaska, a distinguished dermatologist and academic leader, has made significant contributions to the fields of dermatology and telemedicine throughout his esteemed career. With a unique background that combines military service, academic excellence, and innovative medical practices, Dr. Samlaska continues to influence the medical community as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Education-wise, his journey began at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his medical degree before embarking on an internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. His dedication to internal medicine led him to complete his residency at Tripler, where he served as Chief Resident. His experience included treating a diverse array of exotic disorders from the Pacific Basin, providing him with a wealth of knowledge that he would carry into his future endeavors. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Samlaska is board-certified in Internal Medicine.

In pursuit of further specialization, he completed his Dermatology training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. His time there was marked by prolific contributions to medical literature, publishing over 20 articles as a resident and honing his skills in Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology. His expertise extended to the treatment of rare diseases, including leishmaniasis and HIV, and he has published pivotal research on genetic disorders such as Proteus Syndrome.

Returning to Tripler Army Medical Center as Chief of Service, Dr. Samlaska continued to educate the next generation of medical professionals. He was instrumental in the development of telemedicine services within the Department of Defense, providing vital medical support to personnel stationed on remote islands in the Pacific. His pioneering work in telemedicine showcased its potential for enhancing access to healthcare, particularly in challenging environments.

His military career spanned 14 years, during which he received numerous accolades, including the Army Achievement Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary service and contributions to dermatology education. After leaving the military, he established Academic Dermatology of Nevada in Las Vegas, where he remains committed to academic medicine and clinical practice.

Currently, Dr. Samlaska engages in teaching at conferences and hospitals, including Sunrise Hospital and St. Rose Hospital, and participates in various clinical studies investigating the effects of treatments on skin conditions. His involvement in the Parke-Davis protocol and the Abbott psoriasis registry reflects his continuous commitment to advancing dermatological research.
